Project Information

St Joseph's College Trade Training Centre

Project: St. Joseph’s College Trade Training Facility

Location: Toowoomba QLD

Value $2.2M

Architect Stephen Sims

Role: Project Architect, Principal Consultant, Superintendent’s Representative

Teaming up with our friends Kratzmann Architects once again, the Trade Training Facility is the 4th project we’ve done as a collaboration on this site. Comprising a hospitality training facility on the upper level and metalwork shop and maintenance area on the ground level the job presented many challenges, but in doing so has proven a catalyst to improve linkages, circulation and public space in this part of the school as well as enhance the facilities adjacent.

The upper level kitchen, amenities and restaurant space open onto a large terrace connecting the new building to the adjacent MacKillop Centre, allowing large or small functions to occur, with a link to the existing home economics facility adjacent.

On the lower level, the building creates a courtyard between itself and the remainder of the industrial technology facilities on the lower floor of the Mackillop Centre. A second courtyard on the other side of the building provides space for the maintenance team, whilst the driveways and delivery areas to the South double as external work spaces.

The height of the ground floor allows the school buses to be parked in the workshop during holidays for security.
