Project Information

Goondiwindi Palliative Care

Project: Goondiwindi Hospital Palliative Care Upgrade

Location: Goondiwindi QLD

Value $400K

Architect Stephen Sims

Role: Design Architect, Principal Consultant, Superintendent’s Representative

Sims White enjoyed the strong sense of community ownership and need that was evident throughout this project. The project entailed converting an existing two bed ward to a palliative care room, complete with the privacy and medical needs required for patients in their last days, as well as a place for family members share this time, as well as amenities to allow them to stay if needed.

This included and external verandah as well as tea bench, television and a separate wet room ensuite. The facility is also designed to be adaptable to convert to a standard two-bed ward if this hospital is running at peak demand.

Medical service panels and charts have been located so they can be hidden when not required, and picture rails and shelves for personal artefacts have been included to reduce the clinincal feel of the space and provide an atmosphere as homely as possible.
