Project Information

St Andrew's Hospital - Mental Health Wing Refurbishment

Project: St Andrews Hospital - Mental Health Wing Refurbishment
Client: Queensland Health
Location: Toowoomba, Qld
Value: $2.1m
Architect: Tony White
Role: Design Architect Principal Consultant

Refurbishment of the existing mental health facility at St Andrew’s Hospital involved demolishing the oldest part of the hospital (build approx. 1960) and replacing it with a new
purpose built building in its place. This project presented many challenges, not the least of which was keeping two immediately adjacent hospital wards functioning throughout the construction period and services running. The planning of the new unit was critical to ensure that all the patient rooms and common use areas were clearly visible from the centrally
located staff station. The result has been very successful and particularly well received by staff.
